Smallops on the Gas Renovable podcast: nanotechnology to produce more biomethane

Marcos Quevedo Balboa, president of Smallops, took part in the Gas Renovable podcast, where he explained how the company’s nanotechnology optimises the production of biogas and biomethane from organic residues such as alperujo (olive mill waste).

During the conversation, Marcos detailed how Smallops’ technology works: encapsulated iron nanoparticles that act as an additive in anaerobic digesters. The result is an increase in energy efficiency of between 20% and 35%, while harmful emissions are reduced.

The interview focused on the role of the circular economy — giving a second life to an olive-grove residue such as alperujo — and on the need to simplify bureaucracy in Spain in order to match the pace of energy development seen in other European countries.

Marcos also championed social pedagogy and technical transparency as essential tools for overcoming public rejection and consolidating biomethane as a sustainable and competitive solution.
