THE OLIVE POMACE

WHAT IS THE OLIVE POMACE?

It is a by-product obtained from the centrifugation of the olive in the production of oil. The olive pomace is made up of parts of the olive but also with remains of its oil. It has a more solid part that will be the pomace and another part that is somewhat more liquid that is the vegetable water. Its properties include a high water content of 56%. It also has a PH of 5.4 and acid. Organic matter is also the protagonist since it rises with 91%.

USES OF OLIVE POMACE

The olive pomace can be used for animal feed, as a vegetable-type ingredient, for ruminants. Another of the most frequent uses is as an agricultural fertilizer. It is something more profitable economically speaking and that is not toxic. At Smallops we have developed technology for the production of biogas exclusively from olive pomace and vegetable water. Thanks to this technology, we produce a gas with sufficient yields to generate income from the treatment of the olive pomace in the plant itself. In addition, the production of this biogas allows obtaining a fertilizer that can be applied to the olive trees themselves as an ecological fertilizer.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE VEGETABLE WATER AND POMACE

In other blogs we have already talked about what the vegetable water is. As a summary of what has been said in these two blogs and to correctly understand their difference, the vegetable water results from the pressure of the olive to extract the olive oil. Depending on the mill, the system used can be of two or three phases. While the olive pomace is a by-product. This is that it is a solid part and a liquid part where the water vegetable is found.
